E-commerce in Switzerland is relying more on local retailers rather than foreign players
According to Ecommerce News, Swiss e-commerce was worth €9.77 billion last year, passing the 10 billion Swiss francs mark for the first time. The data revealed the Swiss online retail industry boosted by 8.4% compared to 2018.
In 2019, about €7.87 billion were generated by B2C online retailers with Swiss customers, whereas the remaining €1.9 billion came from foreign customers. For comparison, in 2018, €7.2 billion were generated by local customers while €1.8 were generated by foreign online shoppers.
The growth of e-commerce in Switzerland came mostly from local buyers, gaining over €670 million, rather than foreign shoppers with more than €100 million.
As to the most popular online product categories in Switzerland, they are consumer electronics and apparel. Besides, in 2019, 36% of consumer electronics purchases were done online.
