According to Ecommerce News, the first robotic parcel machines with integrated cold storage are launched in Finland. For now, the machines are only active in 2 locations near Helsinki, enabling customers to pick up their online groceries.

The data reveals that the parcel machines with cold storage are the result of a collaboration of 3 Finnish companies. Parcel service provider Smartmile along with cranes and lifting equipment company Konecranes and major retail chain K Group created the products by common efforts.

The parcel machines combine both storage at room temperature and storage at refrigerator temperature. It means that groceries are stored in temperature-controlled compartments, whereas frozen products are packed in special packages that maintain the freezer temperature.

The customers can order their groceries to the parcel machine via K Group’s app for online grocery orders. Afterward, the groceries are collected and inserted into the parcel machine. Both parcel machines are installed in two K-stores, one in J?rvenp?? and another in Vantaa.

At the same time, all e-commerce is growing and new, different types of pick up solutions are introduced to the market. This robotic parcel machine with cold storage space is a great example of innovation that eases shopping as it allows consumers to pick up all their parcels from one pick up point
