According to PreciseSecurity research, the number of officially reported phishing attacks on German online banking users in the last 10 years has been estimated by 40 thousand cases.

E-banking phishing scheme is pretty simple: a targeted victim is opening an email or text message with a malicious link leading to malware installation. Statistics say that the number of officially reported phishing attacks in Germany tripled between 2008 and 2010 and reached its first peak in 2011 with 6,422 cases.

The next 12 months show the number of phishing schemes halved, but not for long because the increasing trend continued in the following years. In 2014, there were almost 7,000 cases of phishing attacks in Germany. Afterward, it has been decreasing by about 40% in year-on-year, resulting in 723 cases in 2018.

Even though countries like Germany have taken on many preventive measures to decrease the number of phishing attacks, the threat does exist. The total number of global phishing sites detected in Q2 2019 was 182,465 (25%) more compared to Q4 2018.

According to the 2019 data, SaaS and webmail sites tend to be the most prominent targets of phishing worldwide.

In the first half of 2019, almost 40% of all phishing attacks were targeted towards payment services and the financial industry.
