According to Ecommerce News, Belgian online shoppers spent €11.46 billion in 2019, which is €900 million more than during the year before. On average, Belgians shopped, 13.4 times online, leading to a total of 112.9 million online purchases.

More than ever, e-commerce is the key driver for growth in the Belgian retail industry: about half of the growth happens online. According to the study done by this e-commerce association, the Belgian spent, on average, €1,363 online last year

The data revealed that travel flights and accommodation continue to be the most popular product category online, as 87% of the spending in this category happens online. Along with that, 79% of customers are interested in tickets for events and attractions. Package travel is preferred among 65% of Belgians.

Most e-commerce purchases are done on laptops, although the popularity of smartphones is increasing, Ecommerce News unveiled. In 2019, the usage of smartphones increased by 54% compared to 2018. For now, 12% of all online spending is done on mobile phones. When it comes to paying a significant amount of money online, Belgian consumers prefer the laptop and desktop devices.
