AliExpress has opened its marketplace to welcome non-Chinese sellers. The Alibaba-owned business-to-consumer marketplace has changed its business model to better compete with Amazon. Online retailers from Spain, Italy, Turkey and Russia now have access to the Chinese platform, Ecommerce News reports.

AliExpress is busy implementing its ‘local to global’ strategy. Instead of only facilitating Chinese sellers, the marketplace now also wants to enable Western retailers to sell their products through the online platform.

According to?Trudy Dai, VP of Alibaba, the company had a global dream since the very first day that Alibaba was founded. Now, for the first time, AliExpress had opened its platform to sellers overseas. Small and medium-sized businesses in Spain, Italy, Turkey and Russia can now register and sell their products to customers in 150 countries across the globe.

AliExpress has plans to expand the service in more countries after building up experience in?Spain,?Italy,?Turkey?and?Russia. The ‘local to global’ strategy has already been implemented earlier this year, but AliExpress doesn’t want to tell how many SMEs in these four countries had registered to sell products.
