The standalone GoPay app has officially launched in Indonesia, after being available as part of Gojek and Tokopedia apps
GoTo Financial, the fintech business unit of GoTo – an Indonesian holding company, has launched the GoPay app in Indonesia to provide financial services for more people across the country.
The separate app is now available both on Android and iOS. Previously, the digital wallet feature was long included in the company’s ride-hailing Gojek and e-commerce Tokopedia apps. In April 2023, an extensive pilot program introduced the GoPay app in select cities throughout Indonesia.
The testing helped the developers improve the mobile wallet so that it can serve a larger number of underbanked customers. Namely, the app was made light in size for all those with limited phone capacity to be able to download it. Besides, its design was simplified to be as user-friendly as possible.
Starting today, all Indonesian users will be able to use the handy features of the new app. GoPay offers up to 100 free money transfers per month, the purchase of phone credit, data packages and bill payments at special prices, and an expense report feature helping customers better plan their finances.
GoPay’s services will also remain integrated within the Gojek and Tokopedia apps.
In Indonesia, traditional payment methods such as bank transfers and cash are still widely used for e-commerce purchases. However, since the outbreak of Covid-19, alternative payment tools such as OVO, GoPay, PayPal, Dana, DOKU, and LinkAja started gaining some traction.
Fintech alternatives are also increasingly used for P2P transfers since typical offline kiosks in Indonesia provide transfer services at additional fees. Besides, they are not present at all in many rural areas. That’s why, money transfers may be also time-consuming for many Indonesian citizens.
