The goal of the initiative of the leadership of the Indian Capital District is to provide bus passengers with the opportunity to pay for tickets through a mobile application, contactless card, or National Shared Mobility Card with RuPay support (NCMC).

Official documentation published by the Department of Transport states that the digital ride payment system will function in more than 8,500 buses. The opportunity to purchase tickets in a new way will be provided to customers of the transport companies Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Delhi Integrated Multimodal Transit System (DIMTS). The process of implementing the digital system will be carried out in two stages.

There is also information that the new technological solution will be integrated with the systems used by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Regional Rapid Transit System of the National Transport Corporation of the Capital Region (RRTS).

The tender document contains information about the requirements for the digital system. The supplier will receive a commitment to creating an infrastructure for digital and mobile tickets for single trips and travel cards. There is a requirement to create an automated fee collection system. The list of obligations includes the development of a special mobile application, a ticket sales platform, and a special platform for smart cards compatible with NCMC.

DMRC introduced a contactless fare payment system on the Delhi Airport Express Line in October 2020. By the end of this year, the corporation plans to put this system into operation on all lines of the city metro.

Preliminary plans of representatives of the Delhi transport system provide for the creation of a single ticket purchase platform for bus and metro passengers.
